Our Journey So Far

In June of 1982 Hyde Park Assembly of God decided to launch an outreach service in the southern suburbs of Perth under the leadership of Pastor Jim McCourt. The Bill Cole Centre in Riverton was home to the fledgling Church for the next ten years. Initially, only Sunday evening services were conducted.

However, rapid growth led to implementation of a full program in August of 1983.  In May of 1984 Willetton AOG, as it was first known, was granted registration by the National Executive of the AOG. By August of 1984 membership had grown significantly and the oversight asked Ps McCourt to become full-time Pastor of the Assembly.

The Church continued to grow and in December 1987, Lot 72 Rangeview Place, Canning Vale was purchased with a view to building a permanent home for the fellowship. In the same year an opportunity arose to purchase the two steel buildings used by the New Zealand America’s Cup Challenge Syndicate at Fremantle.

Some years elapsed before we were able to have the property zoned for a place of Public Worship. Then, in early 1992 a contract was signed with a builder and the project, valued at around $400,000, was begun.  Pastor Alun Davies, representing the AOG National Executive, officially opened the building on the 29th August 1992.  In April the following year our name was officially changed to Canning City AOG Inc.

Having pioneered the work and served faithfully for some fourteen years, Ps Jim and Moira McCourt left us in August 1996 to itinerate in the USA.  A new chapter in our history commenced with the arrival of Ps David and Sally Storer from Victoria later that year.

In February of 1998 we changed our name to Perth Christian Life Centre, accepting that God has mandated us to impact our city.

In December of 1999 we signed a contract for construction of extensions to our facilities which would cost in the region of $2 million. Ps David Cartledge, representing the AOG National Executive, opened the new building in October 2000.  Our extensive facilities now include a 1,000 seat auditorium and a second auditorium with a capacity of around 400 for use by our Children’s and Youth ministries.

Perth Christian Life Centre is currently reaching around 2,000 people per week through its weekend services and ministry to local Primary and High Schools.  Ps David Storer and the team at Perth Christian Life Centre continue to work under God’s direction to make this a Church of influence in our city.
